IAM is different from traditional security measures in several ways. Perhaps most importantly, IAM provides a centralized, unified view of security for an organization. This is in contrast to traditional security measures, which tend to be scattered and siloed. Additionally, IAM gives organizations granular control over who has access to what resources, and the ability to enforce least privilege. This is a significant improvement over traditional security measures, which are often much more crude and allow for much greater access than is necessary. Finally, IAM is much more flexible and can be adapted to changing needs more easily than traditional security measures.
